Description
This publication was produced by ABARES for the 'Live Animal Exports Reform taskforce, Department of Agriculture' Overview Australia's livestock export industry has come under pressure in recent years with a number of significant changes altering the operating landscape such as import restrictions in Indonesia, our largest cattle market, as a result of the Indonesian government's self sufficiency aspirations, and interruptions to some of our largest live export markets as a result of animal welfare incidents. Growing demand from some other markets has also emerged providing opportunity for diversification of trade. This Live Export Trade Assessment presents information on the domestic and international drivers for the export of livestock for feeder or slaughter purposes and assesses the benefits to producers and to the economy in terms of export returns, farm incomes and flow-on effects such as employment
