Description:
Australia has an estimated 2.6 million feral goats, across all States and Territories. Feral goats pose a complex management problem, for they are both an agricultural and environmental pest, and a commercial resource providing income to farmers who muster them for sale. Feral goats compete with sheep and native animals for pasture, and contribute to land degradation. The muster and transport of feral goats is an animal welfare concern. This book provides a comprehensive review of the history and biology of feral goats in Australia, the damage they cause, and community attitudes to feral goat. This report is the first book to provide a comprehensive review of the history and biology of feral goats in Australia, the damage they cause, and community attitudes to feral goat management. Key Strategies for successful feral goat control are recommended by the authors, who are scientific experts in goat management. The strategies are illustrated by case studies. It is an essential guide for policy makers, farmers, conservation reserve managers and all those interested in feral goat management
