Publication Date:
05/05/2004
Description:
(Presented at the Qld Regional Outlook Conference, Rockhampton, 5-05-2004) World economic growth is assumed to increase from an estimated 3.3% in 2003 to 4.0% in 2004. Australian weighted average saleyard cattle prices are forecast to average 289 cents a kilo dressed weight in 2003-04, up 13%, before declining to 275 cents a kilo in 2004-05. Rising world production will place downward pressure on grain & cotton prices in 2004-05. A forecast rise in world demand for sugar is expected to offset production increases, resulting in slightly stronger prices in 2004-05
