Title:
Seal of Approval - Do Seal Exclusion Devices Work?
Publication Date:
25/02/2005
Description:
Seal bycatch is a problem in many temperate commercial fisheries, including Australia's South East Fishery. In Australia, fur seal populations are continuing to rebuild leading to more frequent seal-fishery interactions. Under the Commonwealths EPBC Act it is the responsibility of fishers to minimise accidental bycatch. With this objective, Seal Exclusion Devices (SEDs) were trialled on two freezer trawlers off west Tasmania during 2000 to 2003
