Description:
This report incorporates new survey data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), on wheat usage, export sales and grain handlers stocks. Combining the ABS data with ABARES wheat production forecasts will provide an estimate of the volume of wheat available at the end of each month throughout the marketing year. ABARES has also included monthly data on wheat exports by shipping method and by destination. This report is part of the Australian Government's agreement to fund a three year project to produce monthly data for the wheat industry. Key Issues It is estimated that around 14.7 million tonnes of wheat was held in stock in Australia at the start of July 2011, compared with around 17.2 million tonnes at the start of June 2011.
